How to Remove a Product Photo’s Background

1. Go to the product you’d like to edit. Under Media, click on the Edit icon to edit an existing image.

2. A new editing window will appear. Click on Enhance Background in the top right of your screen.
3. Shopify will then analyze the image and separate your product from its background. In the top right, click on Remove under Remove Background.
4. Click on Done.

How to Generate an AI Background Image

After completing the steps above to remove your background, do the following:

1. Click on Scene under Replace Background.
2. Enter a short description of what your subject looks like in the Describe the Subject field. This will help Shopify to better understand your product.
3. Then, add details about the new background you’d like to have generated in the Describe the Background You Want field. Alternatively, you can choose from the list of pre-populated Suggestions. Click on the Generate button once you’re ready.
4. Click on Done in the top right corner of your screen.

As you can see, Shopify’s AI background generator tool takes an otherwise bland mockup photo and adds a splash of color. This not only makes for a great product picture on your website but the new image can also be used in social media marketing and email marketing.

How to Change a Background Image to a Solid Color

After removing your background, you can add a solid color in its place.

1. Click on the Color tab under Replace Background.
2. Choose from the available options or click on the plus (+) sign under Custom to select a specific color. You can enter a HEX code if you have it or simply click around on the color wheel and manually choose a new color.
3. Click on Done.
