Senior Software Engineer, Storefront Services Team

BigCommerce, part of the Commerce family of brands, is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Storefront Services team. The team builds the service that powers every BigCommerce storefront and works as a distributed group across time zones, so clear writing and independent work matter. Engineers take their own changes all the way to production.

• Build and maintain features in the storefront service, working with product managers and partner teams from requirements through design and release.
• Add and extend GraphQL Storefront API queries and fields while keeping changes backward compatible for headless storefronts and third party integrations.
• Help the service support AI driven shopping, so agents and shopping assistants can browse, build carts and check out for shoppers.
• Fix production issues, improve performance and reliability, and review code from teammates and other contributing teams.
• Candidates need five or more years building backend services in production. Scala or Kotlin is preferred, though engineers from Java, Go or similar languages who want to learn Scala are encouraged to apply.
• Helpful skills include HTTP fundamentals, GraphQL, gRPC and Redis, observability tools such as Grafana and Prometheus, feature flags, automated testing, CI/CD and regular use of AI coding assistants.

Location: United States, Remote, with additional locations in Austin, TX and Atlanta, GA

Salary: $116,000 to $195,000 (pay transparency range)
