Choosing a Shopify Theme
One of the most important things to do when setting up your Shopify store is choosing the right theme. By default, your store was setup with a free Shopify theme. You can either use this theme or select a new free or paid theme.
To view your current theme, click on the eye icon to the right of Online Store in the left-hand menu. To change your theme, click on Online Store.
Scroll down to the Theme library section and click on Explore free themes to view Shopify’s 8 free themes or Visit Theme Store to view all themes available – both free and paid.
Installing a Free Shopify Theme
If you clicked on Explore free themes, you’ll be shown a selection of free themes that Shopify has to offer. Click on a theme that you like, select the style you like and then click Add to theme library.
You will now see your new theme in your Theme library. To preview your new theme and see how it will look on your store, click on Actions > Preview. The preview won’t look like much at this point since you likely haven’t added any products, yet. If you like the way it looks, go ahead and publish it. To publish this theme (it will not be live until you publish it), click on Actions > Publish.
If you decide that you don’t like the theme after all, click on Actions > Remove to remove the theme from your library.
Installing a Paid Shopify Theme
If you clicked on Visit Theme Store, the Shopify theme store will open in a new tab. From there, you can browse through all of the themes available. You can browse by Collection and Industry but the best way to browse, in our opinion, is to click on All themes in the top menu. You can then filter by Free/Paid, Number of products (size of your catalog), Layout style and more.
Once you find a theme that you like, select the style you’d like to use and then click on Try theme. This will add a trial of the theme to your library.
To preview or buy the theme, click on Actions > Preview or Actions > Buy.
If you decide that you don’t like the theme after all, click on Actions > Remove to remove the theme from your library.
