About the role
As the Finance Lead for the Real Estate division at Shopify, you will serve as a strategic finance partner and trusted advisor. Your role will involve guiding financial strategies to improve our spaces. You will support teams across Leasing, Design & Construction, Facilities Operations, and Events by providing financial insights that drive strategic decision-making, foster growth, and mitigate risks.
Additionally, you will have the opportunity to lead financial analyses on various strategic corporate projects, furthering broader corporate objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Financial Leadership: Lead annual growth planning, long-term planning, and monthly/quarterly forecasting. Assist in developing operational targets and budgets for the Real Estate department
- Growth and Investment Analysis: Leading projects and developing strategic and financial analyses to assess new investment opportunities both for Real Estate and other Corporate strategic initiatives
- Insightful Reporting: Develop actionable management reporting, dashboards, and KPIs. Oversee monthly variance analysis and operating reviews to track business success
- Operational Support: Provide ongoing financial support to the Real Estate division, including tracking key operational metrics, and identifying cost optimization opportunities.
- Culture Carrier: Partnering with top talent across finance & business to collectively maximize the impact on both our teams and our merchants
- Process Improvement: Using tools like SQL, Python or AI to improve business processes by automating repetitive manual tasks
What you bring to the team
- Extensive Industry Experience: Strong FP&A and financial modeling experience, ideally within the Real Estate sector. Experience with a mix of Real Estate and SAAS-based business models is preferredDeep Expertise: Proficiency in financial modeling, strategic business case analysis, planning, and reporting, including managing P&L and conducting ad-hoc business case ROI analysis. Experience with contract review, especially involving leasing and construction agreementsExceptional Communication: Excellent communication and presentation skills are required, with a proven ability to translate complex data insights into actionable recommendations for a diverse range of stakeholdersProven Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive strategic initiatives in a fast-paced, data-driven environment. Strong interpersonal skills and executive decision-making influence are essential
Business Partnering: Your application should reflect exceptional business partnering skills, with prior experience as a finance leader working alongside multiple senior business unit leaders. Your ability to forge strong relationships and work collaboratively across teams is essential
